Popular Demand Pictures, GITPO Spirit Lodge, and Canadian Heritage Present the First of Three Vignettes on the Mi'kmaq Language

August 9 is The International Day of the World's Indigenous People. Popular Demand Pictures, GITPO Spirit Lodge, and Canadian Heritage have partnered to create a trilogy of vignettes on the Mi'kmaq language. For our first vignette, A'SUN'N (Quilt), we were invited to share a weekly tradition on Natoaganeg (Eel Ground) First Nation. Each week, Lois Augustine, Carol-Ann Franis, Mary Ginnish, Freda Simon, Madeline Ward, and others, gather to translate historic English text to their mother tongue of Mi'kmaq.

The remaining trilogy of short docs will be released on August 16 and 23:

  • A'su'n (Quilt) - August 9
  • Pepkwejete'maqn (Drum) - August 16
  • Npisun (Medicine) - August 23
